Grassroots Grants

Grassroots grants is a £130m nationwide initiative to support activities at the heart of local communities.

York & North Yorkshire Community Foundation will be delivering the small grants programme in York and the East Riding of Yorkshire. In North Yorkshire we will be working in partnership with the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust.

Who can apply?

Not for profit, voluntary or community groups who:

  • have been in existence & active in the community for a year or more
  • have an income of less £20,000 per year (averaged over 3 years)
  • work for the benefit of their local community
  • are led by volunteers
  • have a written set of rules or constitution

Size of Grant

Grants of between £250 and £5000 are available. Groups can apply more than once but can only receive a maximum of £5000 over the lifetime of the programme. Groups can apply for either a one off payment or a grant spread over the three year period 2008-2011.

What can be funded ?

The grants are intended to benefit the community so may cover a wide range of projects. For example purchase of equipment such as computers or kitchen facilities, a local community event, training & staffing costs, community activities. The project may be a new project or may expand on an existing funded project. Applications for large items of equipment (£1000 or over) are welcomed.
