Grassroots

York & North Yorkshire Community Foundation is delighted to be part of the government's new Grassroots programme. The scheme will operate with two strands. There will be a small grants programme that will enable community organisations to apply for grants of up to £5000.  The second is an endowment challenge that will encourage local donors by providing government match funding for every £1 donated. This will build an endowment fund for the region that will benefit community groups into the future.

York & North Yorkshire Community Foundation have been selected to manage the programme in York and East Yorkshire, and will be working with Hull CVS to manage the programme in Hull. The arrangements for North Yorkshire have not yet been finalised.

The money is part of £130 million nationwide drive by the Government's Office of the Third Sector to support thousands of voluntary and community groups throughout England.

Stephen Beyer, Director of York & North Yorkshire Community Foundation, said "This is great news for the region. Strong communities start at the grassroots. This new scheme will enable us to continue supporting grassroots projects into the future. We are also urging individuals and businesses who want to put something back into the local community to consider using this scheme. The match funding, together with tax relief, enables big returns on donations so there has never been a better and more cost effective way to give"
