Day 5

Brunswick Nursery and Bleak House

A lovely fun day at Brunswick Organic Nursery in Bishopthorpe, York when I had the pleasure of accompanying some of the folks from the nursery on a trip down the nearby cycle path for a picnic. Shame about the wind which, at times, was almost strong enough to blow the fillings out of the sandwiches.

The Lord Mayor of York was there to greet us on our return as was the 'The Press' photographer and the cameraman from BBC's 'Inside Out' programme - we all felt like film stars.

Three cheers must go to Tristram who did a superb sideways wheelie on his tricycle and ended up in a bed of nettles at the side of the path. This wasn't caught on camera but those of us who witnessed it won't forget in a hurry - it was very funny and, miraculously not having been nettled, Tristam came up smiling.

Next stop was Bleak House farm for the interview with John Pearcy who, as a three year old living at the farm, had witnessed one of Walter Wilkinson's shows when he had camped there for a few days.

Not many miles of cycling done that day but it was marvelous to have that direct link to the man who inspired the whole adventure.
